The Bible is the story of God’s people over thousands
of years of history.
It is the story of his relationship with them:
their reflection on events after they had happened and
what that told them about their God.
It tells of God’s character and it tells of
what he hopes for in his people.
Supremely it tells of ‘God with flesh on’
– Jesus Christ, of the cross and of its profound
significance for Christians today.
It contains narrative, poetry, wisdom, story and
more. The Bible is truly the Rough Guide to life.

Over time, a follower of Jesus
will want to explore the Bible from a number of angles, for example:

- What the Bible is and ways of using it in Christian
living
- What the Gospels are, what they tell us about Jesus and
the implications for following him today.
- Major themes of the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament)
and their relevance today - for example: creation, community, covenant,
liberation, holiness
- The kingdom of God
